About: Professional background
Kia Ora, my name is Jem Peralta Postance, and I am a NZAC-registered counsellor with a background in mental health, disability and trauma-informed care. I studied right here in Wellington and graduated with a Bachelor of Counselling and Addictions Practice. During my studies I worked within the disability sector in roles related to neurodiversity, building resilience and mental health.
My experience has equipped me with a deep understanding of grief, trauma, and resilience, which I bring into my work in an friendly and accessible manner.
My professional journey has led me to work across various settings, including specialist suicide bereavement counselling, sexual trauma, addiction services, disability support and advocacy, and community counselling. Through these experiences, I have developed a client-centred, strengths-based, holistic approach, ensuring that every person I work with feels heard, valued, and supported.
As a NZAC registered counsellor, my work is guided by the NZAC Code of Ethics, and I am committed to upholding a safe, inclusive, and culturally responsive space where individuals can explore their emotions, process difficult experiences, and move toward healing.

About: Personal Background
Born in the UK to a Chilean mother and English father and immigrating to little New Zealand, I’ve lived a somewhat eventful life full of ups and downs. From travelling young as a child, living through struggles of a wild teenage life, finding my identity, working within the disability health sector and training as a mental health practitioner. It’s been quite the journey!
In my own time, I’m an avid rock climber, reader, writer, gardener, chef and sunshine enjoyer.
